Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing sustainable development goals, particularly in the areas of health and well-being, through strategic improvements to its campus food services. The AAC Canteen, located in the Prof. Dr. Dayan Dawood building, has been optimized not only as a dining facility but also as a platform to promote healthy lifestyles and responsible consumption within the university environment.

Vegetarian and non-vegetarian Menus
The canteen offers a wide range of nutritionally balanced meals, including low-fat dishes, fresh vegetables, seasonal fruit portions, and sugar-free beverage options available upon request. A dedicated “Weekly Healthy Menu” has also been introduced to raise awareness of dietary wellness among students, faculty, and staff.
In support of environmental sustainability, the canteen actively promotes the “Bring Your Own Tumbler” campaign, encouraging all visitors to bring reusable water bottles and food containers. Single-use plastic items, such as disposable cups and straws, have been fully eliminated. The entire canteen area has also been designated as a smoke-free zone, aligning with the university’s policy to maintain a clean and safe academic environment.
All canteen personnel have undergone food hygiene and sanitation training facilitated by USK’s Health Services Unit. Best practices in food handling, safety, and cleanliness are implemented consistently. Furthermore, the canteen is fully accessible to persons with disabilities, reflecting USK’s commitment to inclusion and equitable access to campus services.
These initiatives support USK’s institutional alignment with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), while serving as key evidence for the university’s participation in the QS Sustainability Ranking.
